Hennepin County Senior Community Services: 

  • Home Services: housekeeping, minor repairs, snow removal, lawn mowing, safety assessment and improvements, and painting.

Crystal Friendship Senior Center: Variety of program opportunities for community members 55+

East Side Neighborhood Services: Older Adults programs: vital living program, senior transportation to appointments, grocery stores, etc., senior nutrition, and senior community service employment program.

  • Indoor and outdoor home repairs and chore assistance. Cost is $30 per hour.

Rebuild Together Twin Cities: 

  • Safe at Home: home safety and fall prevention modifications 
    • Eligibility: must own and reside in home and be up to date with mortgage and tax payments, plan to remain in home for 2 years, live in service counties (Include Hennepin and Anoka), household income at or below 50% of the median income for the Twin Cities Metro Area, must have at least one household member who is 55+ or is living with a disability 
  • Home Repair Programs: Interior improvements (installing flooring, patching and painting), siding, windows, landscaping. Repair or replacements of essential systems like HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and roofs. 
    • Eligibility: must own and reside in home and be up to date with mortgage and tax payments, plan to remain in home for 5 years, live in service counties (Include Hennepin and Anoka), household income at or below 50% of the area median income for the Twin Cities Metro Area, must have at least one household member who is 55+, is living with a disability, is a child under 18, or an active/retired member of the armed services.

Hearts and Hammers: Outdoor home repairs: painting, weather stripping, siding, ramps, stairs, windows, doors, gutters, deck, landscaping. 
Serves income eligible homeowners that are over 60 years old, have a disability, or are a Veteran. No-cost to eligible applicants.

Sustainable Resource Center

  • Energy Conservation Program
    • Services: installing insulation, reducing air infiltration, heating tune-ups and modification, replace appliances for energy efficiency and safety. 
    • Free of cost to those who qualify AND are enrolled in Energy Assistance through CAPHC

  • Lead Hazard Control Program: Grants for pre-1978 homes to replace lead-painted windows
    • Eligibility: live in Hennepin County, own home built prior to 1978, must have child under 6 that lives there or visits frequently, not be project-based Section 8 (but tenant vouchers are eligible), meet income requirements on website.  Risk assessment and inspection services available to those who are not income eligible

  • Silver and Safe: Grants for fall prevention.
    • Services: healthy home assessment and energy audit, raised comfort height toilets, proper lighting and switch accessibility, stairway railings, bathroom grab bars, pest management, fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide detectors, entrance and exit safety, environmental hazards (mold or lead).
    • Eligibility: live in Hennepin County, 65+ years old, at 50% or less of state median income
  • Baby Safe at Home: No cost home visit to eligible households to identify hazards in home and provide safety items to protect your baby 
    • Eligibility: household member that is under 6 years old or visits frequently, or household member that is pregnant., live in Hennepin County, home built before 1978 with peeling paint on original windows, meet income guidelines listed online.

Senior Community Services: Low-cost chores for adults over 60 years old. Cost dependent on income, but no max income level

  • Housekeeping: floors, dusting, bathrooms, kitchens, laundry, and running small errands like grocery shopping. Scheduled on a regular basis
  • Minor repairs/handyperson tasks: small repairs that do not require a permit and can be complete in a day. Plumbing and electrical repairs that do not require a licensed electrician or plumber. Minor carpentry, checking/replacing smoke alarms, repairing windows/doors, and more.
  • Snow removal and lawn mowing
  • Home safety: free in-home safety checks, coordinate improvements like grab bars, improved lighting, reducing tripping hazards, etc. 
  • Painting: small indoor and outdoor painting jobs
