Tom Weber from MPR Delivers Meals on Wheels
Tom Weber Advocates for Senior Services and Support
Who’s driving the Subaru this week? It’s Tom Weber from Minnesota Public Radio! Tom got the opportunity to ride along with long-time Meals on Wheels volunteers Steve and Judy Jones on their Wednesday route. He is working on an article that tackles the tough questions about aging in Minnesota like, “Are Seniors in our community lonely?” Many of our participants opened up about the limited opportunities for interaction and socialization as you get older.
“I used to be able to go out everyday; to work, to the store, to wherever.” – Meals on Wheels participant
Some of our participants struggle with mobility issues or memory problems. One golden thread that they all share in common is their appreciation for their Meals on Wheels volunteer.
“It brightens my day when I have someone come to my house everyday that asks how I’m doing” – Meals on Wheels participant
Our Meals on Wheels participants were ready to share their wonderful experiences with their volunteers and how much the volunteer interactions and care help with loneliness.
Meals on Wheels is a fantastic program that both encourages independence and connects neighbors from all walks of life.
