Volunteer Spotlight – Evon Brownlee

Meet Evon – an Anoka native and a University of Minnesota Alumni! She joined the CEAP Volunteer team in the Meals on Wheels kitchen and as a driver just over a year and a half ago. “I was looking for something to do and I thought to myself, I like to cook and drive – I should do that for Meals on Wheels.”

Evon helps in the kitchen and delivers meals 2-3 times a week. She was surprised at how organized and how many people it takes to make the whole Meals on Wheels process run so smoothly. She does love driving, but it’s the people at the door that keep her coming back each week. “You get to deliver to the same houses every week. You have the chance to put a face to every meal you deliver.”

During her time with CEAP she admits to learning how to navigate the streets of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park with the help of her cellphone GPS. “Delivering each meal is like a jigsaw puzzle. One that I really like solving.”

When asked what she would say if someone was on the fence about volunteering with CEAP, she replied “Come on down. Don’t be shy. It’s a lot of fun and you get to help someone else.”

Thank you, Evon! Your time, talent and treasure is appreciated by CEAP and your community!
