Welfare-To-Work Transportation Program

If you are in need of a car or you have a car that needs repair; you are on MFIP; AND you live in Anoka County...the Anoka County MFIP Welfare-To-Work Transportation Program could be for you!

Interest-free loans are available for families who are making the transition from welfare to work to maintain their employment and to establish a credit history. You may be eligible to borrow up to $2,300 to purchase a used vehicle, or up to $700 for repairs and/or car insurance.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled in MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) and live in Anoka County, or off of MFIP due to over income (up to 6 months after exiting MFIP/DWP).
  • To be eligible for the car purchase loan, applicants must be working at least 30 hours per week for the past 30 days, or be enrolled in a training program that is 6 months long or less.
  • To be eligible for the car repair loan, applicants need to either be doing job search activities, working full or part time, or enrolled in a training program that is 6 months long or less. The amount of repairs must not exceed the value of the vehicle. Up to the first $400* is given to the client as a one time only transportation grant and the remainder is an interest-free loan payable over a period up to 9 months. Applicants name must be listed as owner on the title of the vehicle and must show proof of insurance.*Grants are dependent upon funding availability.
  • Applicants must have a valid Minnesota driver's license.

Note: These are only the general eligibility requirements for these programs. You will need to provide a completed application and additional verifications before eligibility can be determined.

Every fall CEAP, and the Caring Tree Program, gives shoppers at Northtown Mall, Brookdale Center and the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes a chance to sponsor a child and purchase necessary school supplies for that child. CEAP's Caring Tree project is the largest in the state.
